I really do believe that the woman who lives upstairs from me is either building furniture, teaching samba, moving a piano constantly around the room for exercise or she has a whole family of dutch people with wooden shoes in her apartment. Whatever it is, she makes a hell of a racket up there.

Lawrence is not lying. I think it is more likely that she is recalling her African roots and oiling herself up, dancing naked, pendulous breasts glistening in the light from the flames on the gas stove. Either that, or she is practicing for a production of "West Side Story," in which she will portray Anita, a role made famous by the incomparable Chita Rivera. I can distinctly make out the rhythm of "America" in the stomping, and occasionally I think I hear some "Ay yi yi!"s as well.
